ChatGPT and Gemini only suggest places they can double-check. So: menu and prices typed out on your own site, a Google Business Profile with every box ticked, identical name and hours on Talabat, Deliveroo and Google, plus reviews that mention actual dishes. A bit of press from UAE food media helps on top. Every month or so, quiz ChatGPT about your restaurant and fix what's off.

Sounds basic. Yet heaps of Dubai places rank decently on Maps and still vanish the moment someone asks an AI for "late-night Lebanese in JLT." Two names come back, three tops.

What Does "Ai Search Visibility" Mean Here?

How often an AI assistant brings your restaurant up when people ask where to eat. ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews, Ask Maps, Perplexity, that crowd.

Instead of ten blue links, they hand over one reply built from your site, Google listing, delivery apps, reviews and blog chatter. Agencies call it GEO or AEO. Owners mostly call it "why isn't my place showing up?" (Jargon explained in GEO vs AEO vs AIO, if you want it.)

Who's This For?

UAE restaurant, café and cloud kitchen owners. Group marketing managers too. Mostly anyone whose competitor gets recommended while they don't.

Why Does Chatgpt Skip My Restaurant?

Not enough it can confirm. So it plays safe.

Orders.co covered an audit in August 2026 of 4,776 cafés and restaurants; most never got recommended by any AI tested. Places that did tended to own a website, have lots of reviews, list prices and get mentioned elsewhere. Star ratings? Less important than you'd think. They mainly shuffled the order. And closed venues kept getting suggested, which is a bit alarming.

Around here the usual suspects are JPEG menus, mismatched names between Talabat and Google, stale Ramadan timings, no Arabic, and occasionally a robots.txt file blocking AI crawlers by accident.

How Does Ai Pick Restaurants?

Find, read, cross-check. Then match.

Dubai prompts get very specific: "halal Korean BBQ, Marina, under AED 150 for two, date night." If nothing online confirms your cuisine, area, price and vibe, you're out. Doesn't matter how good the bulgogi is.

Making Your Restaurant Visible On Ai Search, Step By Step

Own stuff first, outside coverage later.

Quiz The Ai About Yourself

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google Maps ten-ish things a hungry person might. "Best biryani near Business Bay." "Is [your place] fine for toddlers?" Note who shows up, which sites get quoted, what's wrong. Ask twice; replies wobble.

Type Your Menu

Menu photos are invisible to these tools. Write dish names, a one-liner each, AED prices, and tags (halal, vegan, gluten-free). Add a paragraph on what you're good for. Separate page per branch. Restaurant schema, yes. And check robots.txt isn't blocking OAI-SearchBot. Our restaurant SEO guide has more.

Finish The Google Business Profile

Gemini and Ask Maps read it directly, so gaps there become gaps in the answer. Narrowest category possible. Every honest attribute ticked. Building name plus landmark in the address. Hours changed before Ramadan, not mid-way. Fresh photos monthly. More in why the Google Business Profile matters in the UAE.

Get Your Listings To Agree

Google says 11pm, Talabat says midnight. Confusing for diners, worse for AI, which may just drop you. Check Google, your site, Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon Food, TripAdvisor, Instagram. Trade licence name, one phone number, one set of hours. Pull dead dishes everywhere the same day.

Collect Reviews That Say Something

"Nice food" is filler. "Handled my son's nut allergy brilliantly" is gold, because AI can match it later. QR code on the bill works. Answer every review, grumpy ones included. Bought reviews get deleted and can get you restricted, so don't. Struggling already? See online reputation management in Dubai.

Land Some Press

AI believes outsiders over you. One Time Out Dubai or What's On mention beats fifty directory listings. New chef or new branch? Pitch it.

Add Arabic, Check Monthly

Lots of Arabic searches, few decent Arabic restaurant pages. Native writer, not Google Translate. Setup's covered in our multilingual SEO guide. Then a monthly calendar reminder to rerun your questions.

Can You Steer How Ai Describes Your Brand?

Somewhat. Pick one claim, say "best Neapolitan pizza in Al Barsha," and repeat it across your site, Google profile, Instagram bio and pitches. Enough consistent mentions and the AI picks it up.

Monthly, check: are you named, are facts right, does it sound like you? GA4 also shows traffic from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai and gemini.google.com. Tracking details in how to measure SEO success.

How Fast Does This Work?

Fixed hours or a typed menu can show up within weeks. Steady recommendations, three to six months-ish. Competition matters: Marina burgers versus Al Qusais mandi aren't the same fight. Promises of a guaranteed ChatGPT slot? Nonsense.

Still Need Regular Seo?

Yes. Same groundwork, two payoffs: Maps and AI. More in will GEO replace SEO?

FAQs

How do I get my restaurant recommended by ChatGPT?

No sign-up, no paid slot. Let OAI-SearchBot crawl your site, put the menu online as text, keep listings consistent, and build reviews and press over time.

Why does ChatGPT show my old opening hours?

Something's stale, whether it's your site, Google or a delivery app. Update the lot together, before Ramadan and holidays ideally.

Do I need a website?

Technically no. Practically, it helps loads; owned sites were linked to more recommendations in recent audits. Small and fast is fine.

Do Google reviews matter for AI?

Yep. Number and wording both. Mentions of dishes or occasions help most.

Is Arabic worth adding?

In the UAE, definitely. Plenty search in Arabic, hardly any restaurants show up properly for it.

How do I check if AI recommends me?

Ask the main AI tools around ten customer-style questions monthly. Note whether you appear, what's cited and what's wrong.
